Too much hackneyed attention was given to the middle class (‘Main Street’) that supposedly populates America — true lovers of manly liberty have never conceded that a person could have an identity at all related to ‘class’.
Neither Senator Biden nor Governor Palin strayed too far from senseless populist rhetoric, although Palin’s position on the matter is still preferable, given that she does not demand legalized theft in order to prop up this ’struggling’ demographic.
I am tempted to write that such swinish appeals evince the necessity of a strong, deliberative Electoral College, coupled with stricter requirements on who shall be an eligible voter, but we live in a notoriously un-academic age. Those desires of mine (and the Framers…) must wait to be re-realized, at least for the present time.
For now, however, we as a political society should acknowledge three important things: 1) government does not exist to correct ‘inequalities’, or violently to take from one person to give to another; 2) the Presidency and the Vice Presidency, in particular, do not exist to handle the problems and concerns of any specific demographic (socio-economic or otherwise), but rather they exist to defend the nation from external harm and to guarantee the integrity of domestic laws, courts, and markets; and 3) ideas matter more than interests.
Palin gets one thumb up, while Biden gets two thumbs down.

How can you guys back Palin? She looked like a high school girl up there, with prepared points, but could not deviate from script and would ignore Biden when he pinpointed McCain’s flaws. The rich should absolutely be giving more money for taxes. That’s why government is there. Look at your beloved Brown University. It was build on the back of slaves, a true crime! Brown should pay reparations.
There is no violence here in taxation. We have one small planet to exist on, and the rich do not need multiple houses, cars and vacations. They do not need what they have, and most of the upper class have got theirs unfairly, off of inheritances, exploitation and lies.
Wow Bill, where do I start? First, could you POSSIBLY generalize and stereotype people any further? I bet you consider yourself “liberal” and “open-minded” too.
The rich, like any other human beings, deserve whatever they work for. I strongly suspect you, like your socialist brethren- those running for President and Vice-President, and those running the worst Congress in American history- support punishing successful business people and entrepreneurs by re-distributing wealth and nationalizing industry.
“The rich should absolutely be giving more money for taxes. That’s why government is there.” What does that even mean? The top 1% pay almost 50% of the taxes as it is. Government isn’t “there” to exist off of confiscated monies earned by other people. Liberals really have no concept of what government is for, which is why they shouldn’t be running it.
Finally, Brown should not pay reparations, and neither should the federal government. No one alive suffered through slavery, and no one alive caused slavery. Time to let the dead horse lie.
